Life in Bukhara

Life in Bukhara — studying in the heart of a millennial city

Bukhara — is a unique city with a two-and-a-half-millennium history, located in the heart of the East. Here, every street, every dome, and every minaret tells its own story. Young people studying at our university not only receive modern knowledge, but also have the privilege of living amidst a world-recognized cultural heritage. Through this page, you will get acquainted with the daily life of Bukhara, its hospitality, and the wide opportunities created for students.

1. Modern education in a historical environment

The beauty of Bukhara lies in its ability to harmonize the past and the future. In the morning, on your way to breakfast, you pass by ancient madrasahs, and in the evening, you chat with your peers in modern parks. Strolling through the old part of the city is not just a recreation, but a living history lesson. It is said that the sun of Bukhara rises from beneath the earth: because so many sages, poets, and scientists are buried in this land that their light is brighter than the sun itself.

For our students, this is a natural learning environment. In your free time, taking a walk around the old city with friends, looking at the ancient domed shopping arcades, and preparing for classes in the shady spots by the pool — all of this is possible right here. And returning to the university from the city center is just a few minutes' walk.

2. Climate and nature

The climate of Bukhara is dry and moderate. In summer, daytime temperatures rise to 35–40 degrees Celsius, but cool breezes blow at night. Winter is mild: snow rarely falls, and the temperature is often around 0. Spring and autumn are the most beautiful seasons — the weather is warm, the sky is clear, and flowers are blooming all around. Such a climate creates a great opportunity for students to walk outdoors, play sports, and travel all year round.

The city's green gardens and recreation parks are open all year round. Locals love to walk in the parks in the morning and relax with their families in the evening. This calm, peaceful rhythm of life is the most suitable environment for studying and self-development.

3. Mahalla atmosphere and hospitality

The people of Bukhara are world-famous for their hospitality. The most pleasant aspect of living here is the mahalla culture. A mahalla is not just a residential area, but a big family where everyone knows each other and shares each other's joys and sorrows. It is a common occurrence for a newly arrived student to be invited for tea by neighbors or treated to a festive table. This sincerity serves as a huge spiritual support for young people studying far from home.

Locals always show a warm attitude towards foreign students and those from other cities. If you go to the bazaar, the seller will not overcharge you, but will give you friendly advice; if you get lost on the street, anyone will gladly show you the way. This social warmth is the main wealth of Bukhara.

4. National cuisine and food culture

Bukhara cuisine deserves a separate travel topic. Every dish here is prepared according to millennial traditions. Local pilaf (Oshi Sofi) is distinguished by its lightness and dietary qualities: it is cooked in a special copper cauldron using a unique technology without being mixed. In addition, the melt-in-your-mouth tandoor samsa, milky lamb broth, khalisa, manti, and many national sweets are the true decoration of the student's table.

Eating out in the city is both convenient and affordable for students. Fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and freshly baked bread can be found at the bazaars every day. Around the university, there are many small eateries serving a variety of national and international dishes, where the cost of a daily lunch is affordable for every student. The tea-drinking ceremony is an integral part of local life: it provides rest not only for the body but also for the soul.

5. Living conditions for students

Finding accommodation in Bukhara is much easier and cheaper compared to other big cities. There are several options available for our students: the university dormitory, private rental houses, or apartments rented jointly by several students. The most important thing is that all accommodations are located close to the university, allowing students to save time every day.

The dormitories meet modern requirements: hot water, internet, a kitchen, a laundry room, a reading room, and prayer rooms are available. For private rentals, there are also affordable and high-quality offers throughout the city. Apartments in newly built buildings are equipped with all amenities and represent a great option for young people wanting to start an independent life.

6. Transport and getting around the city

Bukhara is a compact city. You can get from one end of it to the other in an hour. Modern buses, minibuses, and taxis run regularly within the city. A preferential payment system has been introduced for students in public transport, which significantly reduces daily expenses. Getting around by bicycle or electric scooter is also widespread: the city's flat and wide streets create ideal conditions for this.

Bukhara International Airport and the railway station are located close to the city center. This makes traveling very convenient: for foreign students returning to their homeland, and for local students returning to their cities. There are regular flights and train services to Tashkent and other major cities.

7. Cultural life, festivals, and recreation

Life in Bukhara is never boring. Throughout the year, various cultural events, international festivals, the Silk and Spices festival, craft exhibitions, reading weeks, and music evenings are held in the city. By participating in these events, students meet young people from different countries of the world and enrich their worldview.

The city has modern cinemas, shopping complexes, bookstores, reading halls, and art galleries. Historical museums and heritage sites are often open to students with discounted or free admission. Traditional teahouses by cool ponds are the most pleasant places for chatting with friends, sharing creative ideas, and relaxing.

8. Sports and a healthy lifestyle

Following the wisdom that "a healthy mind resides in a healthy body," the sports infrastructure in Bukhara is developing year by year. The city features modern fitness centers, swimming pools, football and volleyball courts, athletics tracks, and wrestling and boxing halls. Numerous sports sections and special running tracks in the parks are organized for students.

The university itself also regularly holds sports events, internal tournaments, and wellness days for students. All of this serves to shape young people as physically and mentally harmoniously developed individuals.

9. Medical service and safety

The health and safety of students is our top priority. In Bukhara, public and private medical institutions, family polyclinics, multidisciplinary clinics, and emergency medical centers provide services 24 hours a day. Our university also organizes medical check-ups, preventive measures, and mental health support services for students.

Bukhara is a traditionally peaceful and safe city. You can move freely on the streets both during the day and late in the evening. Preventive services maintain an open relationship with young people, creating a reliable environment. This is a source of great peace of mind for foreign students and their parents.

10. Why choose Bukhara?

Bukhara is not just a city, but a lifestyle. Here, your student years will turn not only into knowledge but into an experience that gives a lifelong memory. Morning reading, daytime classes, evening walks around the old city with friends, and on weekends a photo session on ancient streets or a trip to nearby nature — all of this awaits you.
